Tell Ald Villegas you support 57 new homes in West Town!
Barrett Homes is seeking a zoning change to construct a 57-unit building at 2652 W. Chicago Ave., a site previously home to an Advance Auto Parts store that’s fallen into disrepair. Under the proposal, the building would have 57 new homes, including 11 designated affordable homes. The development site at the intersection of Chicago and Washtenaw avenues is near several bus lines, including right off the frequent 66 Chicago bus. It’s also about three-quarters of a mile from the Western Avenue Metra station, making it a transit served location in a highly desirable neighborhood, evident by climbing rents.
This development offers the opportunity to convert an abandoned building and vacant lot into much needed affordable and market rate housing in a high demand neighborhood in Chicago. However, it faces opposition from the minority who claim it is "too dense" and will make it harder to find a free place to park.
