We are horrified to learn that Shayma Al-Hanooti, teacher of an International Baccalaureate English class at Washington-Liberty High School, is currently the target of a vicious, Islamophobic hate campaign that has resulted in serious threats to her life and livelihood.

Right-wing attacks on the academic freedom of educators and student organizations who present a non-Zionist framing of the situation in Palestine are becoming an all-too-regular occurrence at schools and universities across the country.

These attacks on Ms. Al-Hanooti come as we near the one-year anniversary of the acceleration of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, which has claimed an estimated 200,000+ lives, destroyed more than 70% of buildings in Gaza, and subjected millions of people to disease, displacement, and unimaginable terror.
