Tell Atlanta City Councilmember Bakhtiari: PUSH FORWARD 1526 Hardee Street
Atlanta leadership understands that we have a housing crisis. However, when it is time to support moving a housing development forward, our decisions and processes don't reflect this dire need.
Exhibit A: 1526 Hardee Street. This is a proposed development for 30 townhomes in the Edgewood Neighborhood, less than 10 minutes from the Edgewood Candler Park station. This development has been sitting in the Zoning committee level at the City of Atlanta for 3 YEARS.
Why does it have to take 3 YEARS to move on approving 30 townhomes? Our foot-dragging process has resulted in fewer homes and much, much more expensive homes, changing who gets to live in this neighborhood.
If our mayor is serious about building 20,000 affordable homes, how could that possibly happen if it takes more than 3 years to build 30 homes?
Housing abundance cannot wait that long; we need our council to take action now.
We need the City of Atlanta to stop slowing down the process for approving the housing that we need - the time has come to move this proposal forward and introduce the vote in Zoning Committee and on Council. 3 years is long enough.
We are calling on the City Council to vote YES on the rezoning ordinance for this development, which will provide 30 new homes to the Edgewood neighborhood. The proposed rezoning (R-5 to MR-3) would also include an amendment to the Comprehensive Development Plan Land Use Map from Low-Density Residential to Medium-Density Residential. Voting YES would diversify housing options and prices in both Edgewood and along Moreland Avenue, and address the housing needs in and around the City.
Tell your city council that you support housing action now!
