Make Sure the Eviction Prevention Program (EPP) is Funded in the Budget: Only Days Left!

In just days, the AFA committee will decide the fate of the Eviction Prevention Program (EPP)!

It is critical that advocates, allies, and community members come together to make sure the committee doesn't let EPP fall through the cracks. Each email sent makes a difference. With a few clicks, you can reach all 13 committee members. Can you help us carry a message to legislators in AFA about the importance of eviction prevention?

If you sent a letter in this campaign previously, thank you! Feel free to send another round, as we have updated the text to be relevant to this moment.

Safe homes can’t wait: Fund the Eviction Prevention Program NOW!

It’s getting harder to keep a roof over our head in Maine, especially close to work, family, and school. We all know it.

When a family is evicted because rent is unaffordable, it’s not only a personal hardship—it’s a disruption that ripples through our schools, our local businesses, and our neighborhoods.

We can do something about evictions right now.

Last year, the Maine legislature did the right thing and passed LD 1522, a bill to reinvest in the successful Eviction Prevention Program. EPP is a new program that provided financial help to 1,300 Maine households so they could catch up on rent and stay on their feet. It has helped people in every county in our state.

The legislature passed the bill in 2025, but they didn’t fund it. The legislature must move this year to fund eviction prevention to continue helping Mainers afford to stay in their homes and their communities!

We’re standing with renters who need a chance at affordability, and we need you in this corner too.

Corporate landlords and wealthy developers have loud voices in Augusta. Renters with low income? Not so much. Now is the time to let Augusta know Maine people are watching. Ask lawmakers who in the next hours and says are discussing and writing the state budget (members of the Appropriations Committee) to fund eviction prevention now!
