Tell Collins and King to fund health care, not ICE!
If Congress doesn’t agree on a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (which includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE) by Friday, Feb. 13, the government will enter a partial shutdown.
Republicans want even more money for DHS and ICE than the agency had before—to fund continuing harassment, detention, deportation and even murder in our communities. Instead, Congress should be funding the programs that make our communities stronger, safer, and healthier. We need Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King to stand up and restore funds for health care for Mainers, and all Americans.
Last year, Republicans in Congress voted to take health care away from millions of people, including tens of thousands of Mainers. Between making cuts to Medicaid, ending the enhanced premium tax credits that allowed people to afford insurance on the marketplace, and reducing funding for rural hospitals, they’ve forced people to struggle to get the care they need and deserve.
We’ve drafted some sample language for you—all you have to do is hit send (and add in your story if you want)! Again, they need to vote by Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown, so please email Collins and King ASAP and tell them to vote NO on funding for ICE!
