Tell Colorado Lawmakers to Oppose Wage Cuts for Tipped Workers
This week, a Colorado State House committee will be voting on a bill that will cut the pay of Coloradans who work for tips by $4 an hour in Denver and nearly $2 an hour in Boulder and Edgewater. It will also force municipalities who already increased their minimum wage to lower wages for tipped workers to comply with the law and it will prevent all tipped workers in the state from fully benefiting from any future local minimum wage increases.
Now is not the time to cut the pay of restaurant workers and other Coloradans who work for tips. Hardworking Coloradans deserve the opportunity to earn a good wage, especially as the cost of living continues to rise. House Bill 1208 will immediately worsen the financial security of hundreds of Coloradans who work for tips by reducing their base pay and forcing workers to rely even more on unpredictable tips.
