The New York Times dropped a bombshell investigation this week exposing the Bureau of Land Management for taking advantage of legal loopholes to sell wild horses to slaughter.

The Save America's Forgotten Equines Act (H.R. 1661) was introduced in 2025, and is a bipartisan bill intended to permanently ban equine slaughter for human consumption, and ban the sale of equines for slaughter abroad.

230 members of Congress have already co-sponsored this bill. That means that if it were to go to a House vote today, and all those co-sponsors voted yes, it would easily move to the Senate and be one step closer to law.

So why hasn't that happened?

The bill is stuck in the House Agriculture Committee until they decide to advance it to the floor for a vote. But that's where we come in!

Contact your representatives today and demand they cosponsor the SAFE act if they haven't already, and demand the House Agriculture Committee advance it to the House floor for a vote.
