Attorney Steven Donziger's Kafkaesque journey through the netherworld of the American justice system continues. More than ten years after Donziger won a multi-billion dollar judgment in Ecuador against Chevron for poisoning Amazonia and thousands of indigenous people, he is incarcerated due to relentless persecution by the fossil fuel extracting behemoth.

Donziger's nightmare exemplifies the co-option of our criminal justice system by the criminals. Judges with ties to Chevron appointed a private for-profit law firm with still more ties to Chevron to prosecute Donziger on contempt charges so bogus that the Justice Department refused to entertain them. The Judge who convicted Steven refused his request for a jury trial. Simply put there has never been an independent arbiter in these proceedings since the finding that Chevron was liable for dumping toxic sludge into the rain forest.

Representatives Jesus "Chuy" Garcia and Rashida Tlaib are circulating a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to assume control of the case and drop all charges before November 30th when Steven's appeal of his conviction is due to be heard.
