The Trump administration has finalized a rule that removes the longstanding regulatory definition of “harm” under the Endangered Species Act—including protections addressing significant habitat modification or degradation that kills or injures endangered wildlife.

Animals cannot survive without the places where they feed, breed, migrate, shelter, and raise their young. Yet this rollback could make it far more difficult to hold industries accountable when logging, mining, drilling, development, or other activities destroy the habitat endangered species need to survive.

Habitat destruction is harm.
