Energy permitting reform is back on the agenda in Congress, but it means different things to different people:

Climate hawks want more transmission lines to move wind and solar. Fossil fueled Republicans, want to undo bedrock environmental laws to build more oil and gas pipelines.

In the old days of Congress, the two parties could compromise on a balance of fossil fuel and clean energy projects. But there’s a big problem with a compromise in the current environment, and it’s occupying the White House.

Trump and his fossil fueled MAGA minions have been canceling permits for clean energy projects - especially wind farms in blue states - even after the projects are nearly complete and ready to generate cheap, clean, union-made American energy. As Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, said: “if you can ignore the law and you can stop someone’s job on a fully permitted project, then does permitting law really matter?”

But so-called centrists like Third Way are still pushing for a permitting reform compromise that will only empower and embolden Trump. We need every member of Congress to hear from climate hawks right now - No deal, no compromise, no way. Until Trump lifts his illegal assault on our climate and clean energy future we cannot make a deal. We just can't trust Trump - and as climate hawks who vote, we'll remember anyone who does.
