Tell Congress: No Tax Giveaways for Crypto Bros

Republicans in Congress are pushing a package of crypto tax bills that would give wealthy digital asset holders and crypto firms special treatment under the tax code. The House Ways & Means Committee is considering legislation that would create new loopholes around mining, staking, charitable crypto donations, and small digital asset transactions.

The Tax Clarity for Mining and Staking Act would allow wealthy crypto holders and firms to defer taxes on digital assets. That means people sitting on crypto wealth could delay taxation in ways workers never can. Workers pay taxes out of every paycheck. Crypto millionaires should not get to play by a different set of rules.

The Less Tax Paperwork for Digital Asset Owners Act would give crypto transactions a special de minimis exemption that other similar assets do not receive. Stock investors do not get to sell assets under a certain amount and avoid taxes. Crypto should not become a privileged asset class with its own escape hatch.

The Charitable Deductions for Digital Asset Donations Act also raises serious concerns. Crypto markets are volatile and vulnerable to manipulation, and allowing large crypto donations to rely on market-rate estimates rather than appraisals could create new risks for taxpayers and charities. Congress should be protecting the public interest, not rushing through loopholes for wealthy donors holding digital assets.

This is especially dangerous because crypto tax enforcement is already under attack. The IRS has lost 33% of its investigators focused on crypto. Weakening tax rules while reducing enforcement capacity is a gift to wealthy investors who want less scrutiny, fewer rules, and more ways to avoid paying their fair share.

Trump’s crypto grift shows the scale of the problem. Trump pulled in at least $2.2 billion in 2025, including about $1.4 billion from his family’s cryptocurrency businesses. World Liberty Financial and the $TRUMP memecoin brought in hundreds of millions of dollars while Trump served as both a major crypto industry operator and the top policymaker overseeing the industry.

Congress should write clear rules for digital assets and these bills go in the wrong direction. They would create preferential tax treatment for crypto wealth, cost taxpayers billions, and make enforcement even harder.

Tell the House and Senate to reject the crypto tax giveaway. Close digital asset loopholes. Fully fund IRS enforcement. Make wealthy crypto holders pay their fair share.
