Twenty-five horses were just saved from slaughter in New York.

And for the first time, someone has been arrested under New York’s 2024 law prohibiting the transport of horses for slaughter.

That is important progress.

But state laws can only protect horses within their borders.

We need federal action.

The SAFE Act of 2025 would permanently ban horse slaughter in the United States and stop American horses from being exported across our borders to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico.

Thousands of American horses are sent to slaughter each year.
