Tell Congress: Replenish the Paycheck Protection Program

Dear Members,

On Tuesday, April 21st, the Senate overwhelmingly passed a near half-trillion-dollar coronavirus bill to replenish the small-business loan program, and fund hospitals and testing efforts. However, only $250 billion was added for the PPP program. This could have been passed last week but was held up for political reasons. The bill has been sent to the House where it may be voted on as soon as tomorrow. If that happens, the SBA may begin to approve new applications as soon as Friday.

In retrospect, maybe this 12-day delay did some of us a favor as banks have not processed many of our applications yet. There is an article in a local paper that states up to 84% of local application from Brooklyn may not have been approved yet. We urge you to contact Congress today and insist that they help our small businesses survive.

There is talk that even with the proposed new $250 billion in funds, the program may again run out of money before all applications are approved. Congress has an obligation to ensure that there is enough money for every small business that needs it. We have many members that are counting on this money to help keep them going.

Senator McConnell said, “The American people cannot be political leverage”. Do you believe that, or should it be added to a list of other non-truths  that include your PPP application is in the que and your $10,000 Economic Injury Disaster Loan Emergency Advance Disaster Grant will be delivered within four days. (This program has also run out of money but is due to be replenished if this bill is passed)

The bottom line is that a lot of businesses will receive PPP money. As a small business, you are entitled to the PPP money. Whether or not you get the PPP money, you will be paying for it for years to come.

Will sending this letter make a change? Probably not, but it feels good and we have to start somewhere. While the MPC is known as the “Voice of the Master Plumber”, in this case you need to make your voice heard.

Please share this with your employees. The more people that send an email, the better chance we have of them taking action! Also send an email to your bank. They all have public relations offices that take every email seriously.
