Tell Congress: Safety Starts at the Top

Tell Congress: Safety Starts at the Top

Give aerospace workers and safety experts a voice where the biggest decisions are made.

America's aerospace workers design, build, test and certify the aircraft millions of people rely on every day. Their experience and expertise should be represented at the highest levels of corporate decision-making.

The Safety Starts at the Top Act, introduced in the House by Rep. Adam Smith and in the Senate by Sen. Ed Markey, would require large aerospace manufacturers participating in the FAA's Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) program to include worker representatives and experienced aerospace safety experts on their boards of directors.

For too long, decisions affecting aircraft design, manufacturing and safety have been made without a guaranteed voice for the people closest to the work.

The Safety Starts at the Top Act would help change that by ensuring major aerospace manufacturers include:

  • Two representatives from unions representing employees directly involved in aircraft design and manufacturing
  • Two representatives with proven experience and demonstrated results in aerospace safety

Safe airplanes are built by people who are empowered to speak up and leaders who are willing to listen.

Tell your members of Congress to cosponsor the Safety Starts at the Top Act and help move this important aviation safety legislation forward.
