Tell Congress to Oppose Any Changes to FERS

PASS-represented employees:

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has been tasked with cutting $50 billion in federal spending—and they’re looking at your retirement to do it.

Leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives plan to bring their budget reconciliation package to the floor the week of May 19. The time is now for PASS members to speak out and urge Congress to oppose any provisions that cut federal employee benefits.

Here’s what’s on the table and what the Oversight Committee passed on April 30:

  • Higher FERS contributions: Employees hired before 2014 would see their contribution rate jump to 4.4%, reducing take-home pay.
(Example: If you earn $50,000, your annual FERS contribution would increase from $400 to $2,200.)
  • Reduced retirement benefits: FERS pensions would be calculated using the highest five years of salary instead of the current three years, lowering overall benefits.
  • Elimination of the FERS supplement: The additional retirement payment for certain employees could be completely removed.

It is imperative that you reach out to your House representative and ask them to oppose any legislation that harms federal employees. Send a letter to your member of Congress today!

Within the letter, please insert your position at the FAA (not in agency lingo but spelled out).
