Tell County Officials: Affordable housing first! Hold an evening public hearing on the Hotel-Motel Tax.

King County is in an affordable housing crisis, and our elected leaders have the duty to make difficult and responsible decisions about priorities and the common good. County Executive Dow Constantine has proposed that $185 million in public funds generated by the Hotel-Motel Tax over the next two decades be used to upgrade Safeco Field, the Mariners’ stadium — including $160 million in "bells and whistles". This same revenue could be directed instead towards affordable housing. With the repeal of Seattle’s big business tax, prioritizing existing revenue streams to address the housing crisis is more important than ever.

The King County Council called a last-minute special meeting on Monday, July 30th at 10:00am. We can’t let them rush this decision before the public has a chance to weigh in! Please help us out by sending the councilmembers and Executive Constantine a message, telling them to prioritize affordable housing, and asking that they hold an evening public hearing on this issue before taking any votes.
