Tell Cuomo and the Dept of Environmental Conservation: Say NO to National Grid’s air permit for more fracked gas in Brooklyn
Tell Governor Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation:
Deny National Grid’s request for Article 19 Air Facility Permit that will further harm the community health and worsen the climate crisis.
Background:
- Despite widespread community opposition, National Grid wants to expand a liquefied and compressed fracked gas storage and transport facility right in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where residents already suffer from a long history of environmental degradation from industrial pollution including the little-known but largest terrestrial oil spill in North America caused by ExxonMobil.
- To add insult to injury, National Grid plans to raise our monthly bills by $108.5 million to pay for this specific expansion of dangerous liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG). We should be RETIRING fossil fuels, not expanding them!
- Expanding this facility will potentially turbo-charge the final phase of the strongly opposed North Brooklyn Pipeline, which would connect to this depot. LNG and CNG threaten the health and safety of Brooklyn communities locally and our climate globally, and constructing the facility will raise gas bills for people who can least afford it. National Grid is also seeking permission to have trucks haul explosive LNG, currently illegal, to and from the facility through the streets of Brooklyn.
Governor Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation must reject National Grid’s proposed LNG and CNG expansion.
