Tell Donald Norcross: Vote NO on 9495

On Tuesday, November 12, the U.S. House of Representatives blocked a dangerous piece of legislation that would have granted the Secretary of the Treasury the unilateral power to investigate and effectively shut down any tax-exempt organization that they wanted to accuse of wrongdoing. This bill, HR 9495, would have allowed Trump to censor any organization without even giving a reason for revoking their tax exempt status. A coalition of over 130 civil liberties, religious, reproductive health, immigrant rights, human rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+, environmental, and educational organizations opposed this bill. Last week, Representative Donald Norcross voted with Republicans in favor of this bill.

This pro-censorship bill is coming back to the House for a vote this week. South Jersey Progressive Democrats oppose this bill because it will give the Trump Administration complete and unchecked power to unilaterally label U.S. non-profits as terrorist supporters. Nonprofits who advocate for human rights, environmental justice, LGBTQ rights and reproductive rights could lose their tax-exempt status for opposing the punitive Project 2025 agenda. We are calling on Donald Norcross to vote AGAINST this bill on Monday. We stand for human rights, human dignity, the environment, gun control, and reproductive rights. And our Congressional representative should, too! All signs point to the Trump redux as being far worse than the first go-round. We need Rep. Norcross to stand up for us, his constituents. Please take a moment to sign today to let Donald Norcross know we want him to VOTE NO on HR 9495 and that we will be watching his vote.
