Tell Fairmont Château Laurier: Cleaners deserve a good contract!

Cleaners are taking strike action because we deserve a good contract, Fairmont Château Laurier!

Janitors at Château Laurier working for cleaning contractor ServeGreen Cleaning Services have unanimously voted, for a second time, in favour of strike action. One of the reasons is that ServeGreen has refused to respect and sign the city-wide union standard that includes 30 other cleaning companies where standards are higher. This has meant that the 16 members of SEIU Local 2 working at Château Laurier are earning about $2,500 a year less for the same work as other cleaners in Ottawa.

We have also raised issues like sick days being denied, management mistreatment, health and safety violations, and more.

This is why we plan to go on strike. We’re sending a message that it’s time to be shown respect in the workplace, to secure a wage increase that doesn’t fall behind those set out in a city-wide agreement for other cleaners, and to see improved health benefits, pensions, and personal days.

Join us in sending a united message to Fairmont Château Laurier: as a luxury hotel you have a responsibility for the working conditions of your contracted janitors. And you have the power to intervene when the cleaning contractor, ServeGreen, operating in your hotel is falling short.

It’s time for a good deal!
