In February, Donald Trump named Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta from the Oval Office, called their elections horrible corruption, and said federal agents should count the votes. This is part of Trump’s attempt to tell the American people that their votes should not count.

Trump is attacking majority-Black cities and districts whose ballots decide statewide races. He is building the case to treat vote counts in specific locations this November 3rd as illegitimate, even as his approval ratings continue to plummet.

Right now his Justice Department is suing states, including Pennsylvania, for their voter rolls. He is still pushing the voter-suppression SAVE America Act, which would force eligible Americans to produce a passport or birth certificate just to register. His administration tried to put their hand-picked head of the Postal Service in charge of which mail ballots get delivered this fall. In January, the FBI seized ballots from Fulton County, the majority-Black heart of metro Atlanta. Courts have blocked pieces of this -- but the administration has not stopped looking for ways to sabotage our elections. Trump is deeply unpopular. The GOP approval ratings continue to fall. They know they can’t win fairly.

Fortune 500 CEOs employ millions of people in those same cities and districts. They write the political checks, buy the ads, and get lawmakers on the phone. After 2020, too many of them waited while voters in majority-Black cities and districts were told their ballots were the problem. Silence from that kind of power is permission.

These CEOs need to take the Hands Off Our Vote pledge in public. Demand that they speak out now, publicly opposing election interference and sabotage, standing for democracy and insisting every eligible vote must be counted. Demand that they commit to speak out after Election Day as well, saying the results must be certified, elected officials must be seated, and the will of the people must be respected and obeyed.
