Tell Gavin Newsom: Veto the Forest Lawn Amendment
After years of work, LA finally has a plan to make Forest Lawn Drive safer. Mayor Bass paused it in May.
Now Sacramento is threatening it again with SB 194, which passed the Assembly on Monday and now sits on Governor Newsom's desk.
Friday night, two hours before the deadline to amend bills, lawmakers introduced SB 194—which contains language threatening the long-planned safety project after opposition from cemeteries along the route.
The need for the project is clear. Between 2013 and 2023, Forest Lawn Drive saw 95 crashes, three of which resulted in someone being severely injured or killed, including a deadly car crash just two weeks ago in front of Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Nearly three-quarters of motorists exceed the speed limit, with vehicles traveling an average of 44 mph.
