Tell Gov. Hogan Do NOT Cut Off Unemployment Benefits Early
On Tuesday, June 1st, Governor Larry Hogan announced that he will PREMATURELY end the federal unemployment benefits on July 3rd, which Congress extended until September.
This will inflict catastrophic damage on hundreds of thousands of Maryland families currently relying on unemployment to pay for necessities such as food, water, groceries, and housing. These problems are exacerbated by the systemic administrative failure of the Maryland Department of Labor, by not allowing people to access the website to file new claims to receive unemployment benefits and the fact that the Maryland Department of Labor is not answering calls for updates on their UI benefits.
Now, our struggling relatives, friends, and neighbors will be left in even more precarious circumstances. Simply put, the Hogan plan will increase homelessness and hunger - with children bearing the brunt of the hardship.
That is why we ask that you sign the letter campaign to demand:
- Governor Hogan reverse his decision to end the federal unemployment benefits early and fix the problems with the Maryland Department of Labor.
- Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson hold a special session to fix the unresponsive Maryland Department of Labor and make sure Hogan does not end the life-line hundreds of thousands of Marylanders depend on for their survival.
