Tell Gov Newsom: sign AB 261 to give California a state mushroom!
Please ask Governor Newsom to sign AB 261, the State Mushroom bill!
Here's the story: In 2022, a century after Callipepla californica was named California State Bird, Californians voted for a State Mushroom! Thousands of ballots cast, six candidates, and just one mush earning a majority of the votes: California Golden Chanterelle (Cantharellus californicus) was chosen.
Assemblymember Ash Kalra stepped forward to champion the cause, with Assembly Bill 261 (you can read the bill here). Our State Mush bill has spent months working through the legislature, and just passed the California Senate. Now, we need to help Governor Newsom understand that mushrooms are important to California biodiversity and culture, and the bill deserves his signature.
This is important. The California Senate voted 39 to 0 to pass this exciting bill!
Now it goes to the Governor, who will either sign it or veto it.
You will help ensure success, if you can decide to send a quick note to the Governor.
