Tell Gov. Spanberger to Protect Immigrants at the Workplace

Urge the Governor to sign this bill.

Virginia's economy thrives when workers are treated with dignity. We applaud Governor Spanberger for stating her general support of immigrant rights, especially HB 675, which aims to keep bad-faith actors from using a worker’s status as a weapon of intimidation.

However, her request to remove the explicit mention of immigration status and shorten the reporting window effectively grants immunity to exploitative employers.

Reinstalling the specific protections and original reporting timelines is the only way to prevent a "race to the bottom" that devalues labor and creates an unfair competitive disadvantage for businesses that play by the rules.

*NOTE: The Governor's changes to this bill were rejected by the Legislature on April 22-23. The original bill now returns to the Governor, who has 30 days to either Sign or Veto it. For the sake of our immigrant neighbors, she needs to sign this bill.
