Tell Governor Hochul and the PSC: We won't pay for new Con Ed gas pipelines

Background:  New Yorkers are already facing outrageously high gas bills, but that’s not stopping Con Edison from spending $404.8 million to replace “leak-prone pipeline” in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Westchester.

These costs get passed on to Con Ed customers who get stuck paying higher bills! Leak-prone pipe is pipe that is not necessarily leaking but is made from older material. And since our gas system is ancient, there are hundreds of miles of it snaking through downstate New York. These old pipes should be retired, not replaced.

It makes no sense to be paying for new gas pipelines in 2023 when New York’s climate justice law mandates a transition from dirty gas to clean renewables! If we don’t speak out, Governor Hochul and the Public Service Commission will rubber stamp Con Ed’s request to raise our monthly bills for new fossil fuel pipelines!
