Tell Hillel: Cut Ties with The David Project
Yesterday, Hillel International announced that it will merge with the David Project -- a right-wing Israel advocacy organization. Eric Fingherhut, CEO of Hillel International, declared that this merger “complements Hillel’s vision of broadening the network of support for Israel throughout the campus.”
This is just the latest instance in which Hillel has moved away from its longstanding vision of promoting dialogue and education, and towards a vision of enlisting students in advocating for the right-wing Israeli government.
In 2013, Hillel International launched a formal partnership with AIPAC in order to “strategically and proactively empower, train and prepare American Jewish students to be effective pro-Israel activists on and beyond the campus.”
In 2015, Hillel joined Sheldon Adelson’s Campus Maccabees program, a $50 million initiative aiming to fight BDS and promote Adelson’s vision for Israel.
And just last year, Hillel International entered into a partnership with Naftali Bennett’s $66 million Mosaic United initiative, which aims to shut down critical discourse around Israel on college campuses.
These partnerships and mergers sacrifice vibrant, pluralistic Jewish life in favor of promoting one-note Israel advocacy. By merging with the David Project, Hillel is -- once again -- prioritizing its donors’ ideology ahead of its students' needs.
Join our call for Hillel to end this collaboration, and recommit to serving as a home for for all Jewish students today.
