Tell HRA: Stop the Killing Spree!
Since Christmas, the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) has killed over 15 dogs it once categorized as adoptable, most for minor and treatable “issues.” More are on the kill list now. Three of these dogs even had fosters lined up to get them out of the shelter environment, but HRA denied them this opportunity.
This killing spree marks a dramatic increase in HRA’s euthanasia rate from the last few months. Many of the so-called justifications for these “euthanasia” cases are the result of HRA’s own doing – or rather not doing. Wouldn’t you make it difficult for people to return you to your kennel if you hadn’t been allowed out for more than 24 hours? Wouldn’t you be anxious and stressed if you were cooped up in a large noisy warehouse with dozens of other barking dogs, unable to sleep with the constant noise, sitting in a small cage surrounded by your feces and smelling of urine? Wouldn’t you overreact if after days of 5-minute “walks,” you finally get to go out for a real adventure and you see people and other dogs on leashes for the first time in a long time? We understand the need for euthanasia when behavioral problems cannot be resolved after strenuous efforts and are a direct danger to people and other animals. But ending an animal’s life because of a mistake, or a misinterpreted action, or for an instinctive self-protective reaction is neither fair nor humane.
Please take a minute to email HRA leadership and demand they stop the killing spree and provide proper care to the dogs in their shelters.
