Tell Lawmakers: Support Tenants' Rights
Right now the legislature’s Judiciary Committee is debating a handful of bills that, taken together, would provide tenants the power to fight back against unfair rent increases or evictions as well as address some of the most common barriers in the application process for potential renters like exorbitant application fees and discriminatory screening questions.
These bills include:
LD 557, “An Act to Decrease Discrimination Based on Evictions in Housing Applications”
LD 691, “An Act to Reduce Barriers to Housing by Prohibiting Tenant Application Fees”
LD 701, “An Act to Increase the Notice Period for Rent Increases”
LD 804, “An Act to Increase the Time Period for Notice to Terminate a Tenancy at Will”
Unsurprisingly, big landlords have been loudly protesting these proposals. But we can’t let them have the last word on this issue. That’s why we need your voice to help make sure that these important proposals move forward.
Send a quick email message to lawmakers on the judiciary committee and urge them to vote to support these important bills.
