Message EGLE Director Roos to Reject the Line 5 Tunnel

Join thousands of Michiganders in calling on the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to do the right thing and REJECT the Line 5 tunnel permit.

To truly protect our waters, Line 5 must be shut down. Michigan’s leaders must stand for our freshwater, not corporate profits.

Now we need your voice, too. Can you take one minute to send a message to EGLE Director Phil Roos, telling him: Listen to Michiganders. Protect our Great Lakes and our climate.

What's Happening Now

EGLE is reviewing Enbridge's Line 5 tunnel permit application. EGLE Director Phil Roos has the power to listen to Michiganders and deny these permits, protecting the Great Lakes from this risky project that will pump 23 million gallons of oil and natural gas liquids through them each day.

Why This Matters to Everyone

  • Fight Climate Change - This project would lock us into decades of fossil fuel use and add 27 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
  • End the Risk of Oil Spills - Enbridge’s 72-year-old Line 5 pipeline has already spilled 1.1 million gallons of oil. In 2010, another Enbridge pipeline caused one of the largest inland oil spills in U.S. history in the Kalamazoo River.
  • Protect the Lakes We All Share - Michigan's freshwater is one-fifth of the world’s surface water supply. The Great Lakes provide drinking water to 40 million people and support communities across multiple states and provinces.
  • Respect Tribal Sovereignty - Indigenous nations have treaty rights and have made their science-based opposition clear.
  • Safeguard the Great Lakes Economy - Tourism, fishing, shipping, and communities across the region depend on clean water, not risky oil infrastructure.
  • Experts Raise Serious Issues with the Proposed Tunnel - If you haven't seen it, watch the video that explains what's at stake.
