House Bill 547 changes our tax code, making it more racially, ethnically, and gender-equitable by:

• Giving an income tax break to 93% of New Mexicans
• Increasing the Child Tax Credit for families earning low and moderate incomes
• Lowering the gross receipts tax, benefitting every person and small business in the state

Unfortunately, other changes – like ensuring that the wealthy and corporations pay their share of taxes – were stripped from the bill even though low- and middle-income families pay a higher effective tax rate than the wealthiest! And the Child Tax Credit increase is in jeopardy.

Time is running out. Please urge these key legislators to restore the income tax brackets, so the super-rich pay their fair share and raise the corporate income tax rate to level the playing field for our small businesses and to keep the increases to the Child Tax Credit for families earning low and moderate incomes.
