Tell Orange County to Fund Fast and Safe Transit!
Today, Orange County faces a transportation crisis with high traffic, long commutes, and rising prices. Our communities deserve fast, diverse and affordable transportation options, which means investing in public transportation for all of us. We can't keep making the same mistake of only building highways, Orange County's population estimated to increase by 700,000 people by 2050, roads alone won't be able to handle this; we need action now to fund public transit to be able to help our current population and prepare for growth.
Orange County need a plan to bring rapid transit to our communities, that's why we support the STAR Rapid Transit Plan. The STAR Plan would establish a countywide framework to study, secure funding for, and develop rapid transit for six high-volume transportation corridors: Colonial, Semoran, Silver Star, Sunshine Corridor (MCO-Disney), International, Orange Blossom.
Rapid Transit is transportation that has a 15 minute or less headway, signal priority and a dedicated right of way, and includes bus rapid transit, light rail and heavy rail. As residents of Orange County, we hope by coming together with urgency, we can work together in making a bold vision of fast, diverse and affordable transportation a reality for working families across our county.
