The Trump administration just abducted and disappeared Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian Columbia University student activist and U.S. permanent resident, for protesting the Israeli military’s genocidal assault on his people.

Plainclothes DHS agents seized Mahmoud as he was returning home with his wife, who is eight months pregnant. He is reportedly being held in a detention center in Louisiana and facing deportation.

This is a direct attack on Palestinian students and advocates for Palestinian rights — and it’s all part of Trump’s authoritarian consolidation of power against his political opponents.

Our Jewish communities must speak out. Mahmoud’s detention will do nothing to fight antisemitism — and we will not be used to justify deportations.

It’s crucial that we build mass public pressure to free Mahmoud and ensure that our elected officials and institutional leaders protect students from this authoritarian crackdown on freedom of expression. Revoking green cards for political views is a dangerous precedent.

When we say never again, we mean never again for anyone.
