Tell Sen. Tuberville: Thank You for Defending 340B
*NOTE* - this form/action for Alabama residents only.
"We should be expanding [340B], not reforming it"
On October 23rd, Alabama's U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville stood up in defense of the 340B Drug Pricing Program during a hearing hosted by the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions. We know that this drug rebate program helps save taxpayer dollars & we know that this program is essential for protecting access in rural communities. In his opening remarks, Senator Tuberville said "we should be expanding this, not reforming it," and we agree.
He asked:
- "Would reforming 340B in a way that undermines hospital's ability to provide for uninsured patients go against the programs original purpose?"
- "What other forms of discounts or financial assistance do at-risk hospitals receive that are not taxpayer funded? Do they receive anything?"
- "What would meaningful reform look like for a state that is rural, poor, and has demonstrated it is not abusing this program?"
- "How can we ensure that community health centers in my state continue using 340B savings to benefit patients rather than losing resources to larger systems or middle men?"
Join us in thanking Coach for taking a stand in defense of a program we know helps save lives!
What is the 340B Drug Pricing Program?
The 340B Program enables covered entities to stretch scarce federal resources as far as possible, reaching more eligible patients and providing more comprehensive services.
Manufacturers participating in Medicaid agree to provide outpatient drugs to covered entities at significantly reduced prices.
Eligible health care organizations/covered entities are defined in statute and include HRSA-supported health centers and look-alikes, Ryan White clinics and State AIDS Drug Assistance programs, Medicare/Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospitals, children’s hospitals, and other safety net providers. See the full list of eligible organizations/covered entities.
To participate in the 340B Program, eligible organizations/covered entities must register and be enrolled with the 340B program and comply with all 340B Program requirements. Once enrolled, covered entities are assigned a 340B identification number that vendors verify before allowing an organization to purchase 340B discounted drugs.
