Now that California's historic Reparations Task Force completed its mission to create recommendations for why/how the state government of California must compensate and repair Black Americans for state-approved Slavery, Jim Crow, and the current-day impacts of both, it's time for action.

To make Reparations a reality for Black Americans in California, residents will need a place to go to apply for Reparations, show that they’re eligible, get their claims processed, and more.

SB-490 (Bradford) would create a new state agency to do just that: The California American Freedmen Affairs Agency (CAFAA). This agency will implement Reparations for California residents who are descendants of persons who survived chattel enslavement and emancipation in the U.S.

SB-490 is THE critical next step forward toward Reparations for Black Americans in California.
