Tell SF: fix the housing element before it's too late

FIX THE HOUSING ELEMENT - Take this action!

If we don't act, San Francisco is on track to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in affordable housing and transit grant funds next year. San Francisco, like every city and county in California, is required to update its housing element of the general plan: an eight-year plan that says how the city will accommodate new housing. The State of California approves each plan, and San Francisco must convince the state that it can accommodate 82,000 new homes between 2023–2031.

The city's housing plan has huge problems:

  • San Francisco is the subject of four different investigations by the State of California over alleged violations of state housing laws
  • The Planning Department has multiple recent studies from showing that housing is infeasible to build in San Francisco—the financial risk is extreme
  • The Planning Department plans to turn in their work after the deadline, cutting the city off from state grants

Use our letter template to tell the City that big changes are needed before it's too late.
