Tell the commissioners: don't leave our community in the cold!
On 1/25/26, a winter storm struck Southern Maryland and snow and ice and below freezing temperatures forced the counties to take measures to keep people safe. This included warming centers, as well as transporting unhoused people to shelter. These measures were not enough as county facilities closed because of the weather, and volunteer driven nonprofits were leaned on heavily.
The counties abdicated their responsibility to our most vulnerable populations.
We are demanding both St. Mary's and Calvert Counties come up with real solutions to support our unhoused population and people with inadequate heat in their homes during the cold winter months.
