UN Watch is a nongovernmental organization that argues it “monitors the performance of the United Nations according to the yardstick of its char­ter and promotes human rights for all.” They do not provide the types of necessary critique of the UN system’s ties to whiteness and imperialism; rather, the UN Watch acts as a pro-Israel lobby group. This is not unlike the work of HonestReporting Canada or NGO Monitor. As PHROC and PNGO have noted, “the research conducted by some of these actors is disingenuous, defamatory, and politically charged, which supports Israel‟s agenda in targeting Palestinian civil society, including human rights organizations in the OPT.”

Although based in Switzerland, UN Watch offers tax-deductible receipts for donations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Belgium. In Canada, it is a registered charity, however, its entire website simply links to UN Watch’s international website.

UN Watch is led by Canadian lawyer, Hillel Neuer. Neuer is also the founding chairman for the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy. For this work, McGill University awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree. He has also spoken in Canadian parliament, as recently as April 2026.

Neuer and UN Watch actively spread Israeli propaganda, including that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian doctor who was abducted by the Israeli military, is actually a “Hamas officer”, that “UNRWA is infested with terrorists”, and that Palestinian journalists are in fact “terrorists for Hamas and PIJ.”

UN Watch’s website includes:

UN Watch and Hillel Neuer are connected to other pro-Israel Canadian groups. For example, Neuer spoke at the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center’s 2024 Voices of Change. After his keynote, there was a discussion led by former Senator Linda Frum, who is now on the Board at UN Watch.

Between 2014 and 2025*, UN Watch Canada received $315,193 from other registered Canadian charities. The top five donors were:

5. Calgary Lodge Menorah Charitable Foundation

Notably, until 2024, UN Watch Canada failed to report any of these funds on their CRA filings. Line 4510 which records the “total amount received from other registered charities” was left blank, despite other charities recording donations to the organization. For the first time in 2024, UN Watch reported funds on Line 4510. That being said, they reported receiving $153,603 while other charities only reported a total of $93,429 in donations. This discrepancy is not unusual in data reported to the CRA.

Starting in 2021, UN Watch Canada began reporting distributions out of country on Schedule 2. The only recipient is United Nations Watch in Switzerland. The amount has varied significantly.
