Tell the DPS Board: Invest in Students, End Antwan Wilson's Contract
Denver Public Schools recently agreed to hire Antwan Wilson as a consultant for their CareerConnect program at a substantial cost. Mr. Wilson has a troubling history, both locally and nationally. He was recently forced out of his position in Washington D.C. because of unethical behavior. DPS also had a credit recovery scandal just a few years ago under his watch.
Wilson was hired just a few weeks after the DPS superintendent claimed the district did not have the funds to increase teacher pay. Even worse, Wilson will make $60,000 while being asked to work two days per week.
Wilson's return to DPS also comes at a difficult time for the Northeast Denver community. For many, Wilson remains a poster child for the controversial closure that impacted Montbello High School just a few years ago. Currently, there are community members in Montbello asking for a comprehensive high school option, and while there are definitely those who disagree with that notion, DPS needs to authentically engage the Montbello community and do so from a neutral position.
Please ask the Denver Board of Education to take steps to end Antwan Wilson's contract and to hold DPS administrators accountable for taxpayer money that should be going to the classroom, not consultants.
