For years we've worked to reform and re-make the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from an agency that rubber stamps fossil fuel pipelines and infrastructure, to one that promotes and manages the swift, just, and equitable transition to renewable energy.

With Trump back in the White House, it's safe to say we had modest expectations for FERC. But as the commission currently has two Democrats, one Republican, and two vacancies, things could get a whole lot worse - unless the Senate speaks up and refuses to confirm them.

Trump's two new nominees are Laura Swett and David LaCerte. Both worked on Project 2025 - the infamous plan to remake the US into an authoritarian state that only serves Trump and his fossil fuel pay-masters. Both have a history of favoring fossil fuels over clean energy, and of working for the most terrible, cruel, and illegal parts of Trump's energy and management teams. Both must be stopped.

This past week, the Senate ENR Committee approved (8-12) the nominations of Swett and LaCerte. However, for once, all Democrats took a firm stand and voted against the candidates. We must urge the full Senate to do likewise and reject these Project 2025 FERC nominees!
