Tell the UNC Board of Governors: Don’t Approve the Destruction of the UNCA Woods

This Thursday, July 24th, UNC Asheville will ask the UNC Board of Governors to approve its plan to clearcut 45 acres of urban forest for a 5,000-seat stadium despite widespread public opposition. This forest is a vital outdoor classroom, wildlife corridor, and climate buffer, and its destruction would be an irreversible loss to both the university and the Asheville community. The rushed approval process raises serious concerns about transparency, environmental stewardship, and the long-term mission of a public university.
