Tell the US House: Stop the SPEED Act. We can’t trust Trump.

Energy permitting reform is back on the agenda in Congress, but it means different things to different people: Climate hawks want more transmission lines to move wind and solar. Fossil fueled Republicans, want to undo bedrock environmental laws to build more oil and gas pipelines.

But no matter what you want, a new MAGA Bill called the “Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development Act” or “SPEED Act” for short (H.R. 4776) gets it all wrong.

The SPEED act claims to be a compromise - more pipelines and more power lines. But the truth is that it will only empower Trump and his fossil fueled MAGA minions to do what they're already doing: Canceling clean energy projects and boosting fossil fuels - laws and regulations be damned. In just the last few months Trump and his MAGA minions have:

  • Illegally impounded millions of dollars in clean energy funding;
  • Mandated mining 4 million acres of public lands for coal, 20 million acres of the Arctic for oil and gas drilling, and proposed opening huge swaths of the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts that have been off limits to oil drilling for extraction and pollution;
  • Cancelled, rescinded, and delayed clean energy projects, with MAGA Interior Secretary Doug Burgum rejecting any support for wind energy;
  • Gutted federal agencies responsible for climate science, public health and safety;
  • and worse, as climate hawks know.

As Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, said: “if you can ignore the law and you can stop someone’s job on a fully permitted project, then does permitting law really matter?”

But now that the House is back in session, they've scheduled a hearing on the SPEED act for Thursday November 20. They're trying to ram this wrongheaded power grab of a bill through either to distract from the Epstein files, or to lock in fossil fuels before 2026, when the looming midterms will make it harder.

Use this page to tell your US House Representative - No permitting reform deal, no compromise, no way. Until Trump lifts his illegal assault on our climate and clean energy future we cannot make a deal. We just can't trust Trump - and as climate hawks who vote, we'll remember anyone who does.
