Assault weapons are the weapon of choice for mass shooters, because they can fire off dozens of rounds in seconds without stopping to reload.   And large capacity magazines are also routinely used in handguns, increasing the daily gun violence in impacted communities, especially in communities of color in cities. https://efsgv.org/  

Semi-automatic assault weapons are likewise the weapon of choice for gang members and drug dealers.
