Tell Waymo to Release the Safety Data

Waymo says its driverless cars are safer than human drivers. As the company expands across the country, the public deserves access to the data needed to examine that claim.

In Washington, D.C., where Waymo has tested vehicles since 2024, local autonomous vehicle crash records remain out of public view. Federal records identify six incidents involving Waymo vehicles in the District, but the information available to the public does not provide a complete account of every crash.

A company’s selected safety figures cannot answer every question about how its vehicles perform. People need crash reports, injury information, miles driven, and enough detail about incidents to judge the results in context.

Waymo should release the complete safety data behind its claims, including information from its D.C. testing, and support public access to the crash reports it has provided to transportation officials. People in every city where Waymo operates deserve the same transparency.

Tell Waymo to release the safety data and let the public examine the evidence for itself.
