TELL WAYNE STATE TO DROP THE MISCONDUCT CASE AGAINST PRO PALESTINIAN STUDENT ACTVIST
Over the past year, the Wayne State University Board of Governors have desperately sought tools to suppress the democratic mass movement demanding divestment from Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.
The 2024 criminal charges against students involved in the Gaza Solidarity Encampment have been dismissed due to the Wayne County Prosecutor acknowledging that all available evidence indicated the students were exercising their First Amendment rights. The prosecutor went on to explain that police body cam footage contradicted police reports.
Yet WSU continues to pursue disciplinary actions for non-academic misconduct cases against these same students in a blatant attempt to punish those committed to the preservation of human dignity and the end of human suffering. Despite widespread support across campus for divestment and an end to political repression, WSU has once again targeted a student for protesting against unethical university investments aiding the genocide in Palestine. The same incident in which WSUPD deployed documented violence on protestors, such as yanking a female student back by her arm as she approached an administrator who was speaking to her and grabbing another student in a stairwell, demanded immigration records without legal authority, and denied any Arab or Muslim-appearing students access to campus facilities. This latest misconduct case could lead to suspension or expulsion.
Stand up for student rights. Demand that WSU drop the case against this student activist.
