Ridley Road Shopping Village is facing possible eviction and the Labour council is failing to respond. Community members and traders are uniting to resist the eviction. Please share our letter to Hackney Mayor Caroline Woodley and London Mayor Sadiq Khan detailing the traders' demands, requesting they talk to the traders and intervene to save the Shopping Village.

Markets like Ridley Road are built and sustained by migrant and racialised communities, often the first to be pushed out when areas change. The market is decades old and at the centre of Hackney life. We must protect its communities and traders.

1. The return of the original secure and permanent leases for all traders.
2. A rent cap (to be agreed by traders and landlord) to ensure that traders can continue with their business and not be financially pushed out based on the unaffordability of rent.
3. Transparency and clear communication from the landlord with all traders in terms of return date after the refurbishment is expected to be completed and terms of the new lease.
4. Compensation for the loss of income/earnings during the refurbishment process (which is 2/3 months of forced closure) as this will affect trader’s livelihood and they have families.
5. No more collective punishment, racist discrimination and over policing of traders. All traders to be treated equally

Terms of condition of the lease must be put in writings and concerns are addressed before traders are forced to leave for the refurbishment process.
