Tell Your Legislator to Protect Reproductive Rights in PA!
Abortion rights are under attack in Pennsylvania.
Several bills threatening reproductive justice have been introduced at the Pennsylvania legislature. The most egregious are Senate Bill 956 and House Bill 2252, constitutional amendments that would overturn the right to abortion care in Pennsylvania if federal protections are weakened or overturned.
SB 956 passed in the Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee on 1/25/22. Next, it must pass both the House and Senate in two sessions in a row, to then become a ballot measure for voters to decide on. It is important to note that since 1968,only six out of 49 proposed amendments have been rejected by voters. If SB 956 makes its way to the ballot, it is very likely that guaranteed reproductive rights will be a thing of the past in Pennsylvania. Constitutional amendments cannot be vetoed by the Governor. HB 2252 was referred to the House Health Committee on 1/20/22. LWVPA has historically advocated for the rights of Pennsylvania individuals to make their own reproductive choices.
The League of Women Voters believes “there is no equality without reproductive rights” and our basic freedoms hinge on our ability to control our reproductive health. The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania is calling on legislators to vote against Senate Bill 956 and House Bill 2252 and to protect reproductive choice in our state.
