The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers retirement, disability, and survivor benefits that provide crucial financial security to seniors, people with disabilities, and families who have lost a breadwinner. Cuts and layoffs would devastate the agency's ability to process claims and provide timely services.

Furthermore, the funding of the SSA, like all federal agencies, lies in authorities granted to Congress. Congress needs to oppose any cuts to critical agencies like the SSA, and communicate that position to agency heads, since they have the power to refuse to implement any proposed RIFs.
