Tell Your Representatives: "Burma is not Safe for Return"
On November 25, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem terminated TPS for Burma on the basis that "the situation in Burma has improved enough that it is safe for Burmese citizens to return home," citing praise for China's meddling in Burmese affairs as successful negotiations for ceasefires and implying that the Burmese junta's sham elections will offer peace and stability in Burma.
If left unchallenged and uncorrected, this statement carries immense danger to the entire country of Burma's revolution for peace and democracy since February 1, 2021, by supporting the brutal Burmese military junta's legitimacy and reputation, and it could lead to more similar U.S. statements or policies to come in the near future. The worst-case scenario is that the U.S. legitimizes the junta’s sham elections and engages with the junta, effectively helping entrench military rule in Burma.
Therefore, this letter campaign is to ask our champions in Congress to push back on this and to rectify DHS's claims that the Burmese junta is a viable pathway to peace and stability in Burma. It does this by writing a letter to your Member of Congress/Representative to educate their office and voice your opinion as a constituent:
- Voice your opinion that the Burmese military junta is not a viable pathway to peace in Burma,
- Highlight the plight and suffering of the people - including Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, different ethnic groups, etc. - in Burma at the hands of the brutal Burmese military junta, and
- Requesting your Member of Congress to publicly and/or privately clarify with the DHS that its claims that the situation in Burma has improved and is safe for Burmese citizens to return home are misinformed, and to reconsider the termination of TPS for Burma on this basis.
