Tell Your State Legislators to Tax Billionaires’ Income From Wealth
Working people pay taxes on their wages while billionaires can accumulate enormous investment gains that go untaxed for decades, if ever. State legislators must introduce and pass legislation that makes billionaires contribute more to the communities they profit from.
Billionaires can borrow against investments that have grown in value, accessing cash without selling those assets or triggering taxes on the gains. That lets them spend money while their fortunes keep growing and their investment gains remain untaxed. Even when they do sell, those gains are taxed at rates far below what working people pay on our wages.
Across the country, families need fully funded schools, accessible healthcare, affordable housing, and reliable public services. MAGA’s federal cuts are placing additional pressure on state budgets as well as households as millions of people across the country lose access to Medicaid and SNAP. Taxing billionaires’ income from wealth would help raise revenue to meet those needs.
Pennsylvania’s Tax Billionaires, Fund PA campaign offers an example of communities organizing to demand more revenue from unearned income. People across the country can bring that demand to their own state legislators and press them to act.
Send a message demanding that your state legislators introduce and pass a tax on billionaires’ income from wealth, including investment gains that can currently escape taxation, and invest the revenue in essential services.
