Thank you Mayor Frey!
Less than 24 hours ago we learned that Effective Law Enforcement for ALL concluded that in Minneapolis “The City and MPD have made more progress toward building a foundation for sustainable reform in the first year of monitoring than nearly any other jurisdiction”. This was great news for our city and exciting progress on one of Minneapolis’ most pressing issues. We planned to email you today solely to applaud the Mayor and MPD on this progress.
But this morning, the Trump administration announced they were seeking to end the federal consent decree that was directing this reform, saying: “the United States no longer believes that the proposed consent decree would be in the public interest.”
Unfortunately, the Trump White House has decided to try to put an end to this important work. Thankfully, Mayor Frey and Chief O’Hara have no intention of letting this needed reform stop, with the Mayor saying today:
Please join us today in thanking the Mayor Frey for the important progress the city has made in this first year and for his commitment to continuing police reform despite Trump’s attempts to derail it.
